What is a Christian Ashram?
A Christian Ashram is a Christian retreat that combines learning, prayer, reflection, community, and rest. Christian Ashrams seek to help all people deepen their experience of Jesus Christ as Lord in their daily life.
The word Ashram comes from India, where it is used to describe a location or practice of religious retreat. Seeing its value for spiritual health and renewal, writer and missionary E. Stanley Jones adapted this ancient approach to be centered on Christian teaching in 1930. Each Christian Ashram today continues to follow the original format, which offers a break from everyday demands to allow space and time for learning, prayer, reflection, community, and rest.
For a time, people can leave their busy lives behind to find a new rhythm of life focused on Jesus. We open our hearts to God and each other. In Jesus, we find a way of life that is good for us, our family, friends, neighbors, and our world.
